Antti Asikainen (born 1965) works as a professor in forest technology in the Finnish Forest Research Institute. His current research is focused in the harvesting technology and forest biomass resources for energy in Europe and globally. His studies cover the technology, logistics and costs of forest biomass supply. In addition, he has estimated the global biomass availability for heat, power and biorefining.
Asikainen is the national team leader in IEA Bioenergy Task 43 "Biomass feedstocks for energy markets”. He coordinates Bioenergy from Forests research programme of the Finnish Forest Research Institute, where about 100 researchers are studying the role of forests in the renewable energy supply and the impacts of intensive biomass harvesting in the forest ecosystems.
