Prof. Dr. Rolf Björheden has been involved in forest energy operations research for 25 years. From a background as M Sc in Forestry, his research has led to professorships in Forest Operations in Denmark and at Linnaeus and Dalarna Universities in Sweden. His main expertise is systems analyses, logistics and work study. Rolf had a number of short term employments with forest industries in Sweden and in other countries.
He was head of the Wood Design and Technology Program aiming at higher use of wood in building and interior design. His own research dealt with the interface between forest operations and sawmills, including improved control of wood inflow to sawmills and product allocation strategies.
He also led the successful application of the ChrisGas project, a pilot plant for producing synthesis gas from solid biomass.
Rolf is currently leading the Swedish national program for R&D of forest fuel technology and operations, placed at the Swedish Forestry Research Institute, Skogforsk. Recent research includes production systems analyses and certification of forest fuel harvesting systems.
